Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide composed of three types of amino acids (glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine), and is found in the tissues of animals and plants, and in microorganisms. GSH has important functions in living organisms, including maintaining the balance of oxidation/reduction levels, and the detoxification of toxic substances via condensation with peroxide, through glutathione peroxidase. The effectiveness of glutathione supplementation has been studied in various fields, regarding the improvement of metabolism, strengthening of the immune system, enhancement of liver function, anti-stress effects, etc.
