Analysis of trace elements in steel
JIS G1257 “Iron and steel-Methods for atomic absorption spectrometric analysis” is defined as an official method for analyzing the metals in steel. Furthermore, an analysis method that employs electrothermal atomic absorption spectroscopy of Sb, As, Al, Sn, and Se was added as a supplement in March, 2000. For the analysis of As, Al, Sn, and Se, the matrix matching method is specified by JIS G1257 to avoid interference from a large number of matrix in steel samples. This analytical method dissolves pure iron of the same quantity as a steel sample, adds a known amount of a target element, and makes a calibration curve. Moreover, a standard addition method that adds a known amount of a target element to a dissolved steel solution to make a calibration curve is used for the analysis of Sb. This standard specifies the background correction of the Zeeman method to avoid spectral interference, when As, Al, Sn, and Se are analyzed with the matrix matching method. Since the Model Z-2000 Polarized Zeeman Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer employs the polarized Zeeman background correction method, the baseline is stable. In this experiment, the Sb, As, Al, Sn, and Se of a steel sample are analyzed with a Model Z-2000 Polarized Zeeman Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, according to the JIS G1257. * Refer to ‘TECHNICAL DATA AA sheet No. 69’ for details regarding the polarized Zeeman background correction method
